Specifiek was het merendeel van mijn werk gericht op het maken van polymeren uit circulaire moleculen die \"koolstof nanohoepels\" worden genoemd (als je bekend bent met koolstofnanobuisjes, zijn nanohoepels als plakjes van een nanobuisje). We kunnen koolstof nanohoepels maken met atomaire precisie (nog niet mogelijk voor koolstofnanobuisjes), dus door koolstof nanohoepels op verschillende manieren aan elkaar te rijgen, was het idee dat we veel controle zouden hebben over de structuur en eigenschappen van de uiteindelijke materialen.
